Cole Davis is entering his 6th season as the Head Coach of the Friends University Women’s Track and Field Team. Davis is in charge of recruiting and coaching the athletes in the event specialties of – Sprints/Jumps/Hurdles/Multi’s & Javelin.
During his time in Wichita, Davis has mentored over 100 KCAC Champions, qualified over 50 different athletes for the NAIA National Championships and developed 61 school record holders. As a team since his arrival in 2011-12, the Falcon women have won seven out of a possible 10 Track and Field Team Titles and he has produced 21 All-Americans at the NAIA National Meet.
Starting his 6th year as the Head Women’s Track and Field Coach, Davis continues to set incredibly high standards for his team. The women’s squad has not placed lower than 3rd in the Conference at any KCAC Championship Track Meet during his time with Friends University and they have brought home seven Conference Titles. The women finished the 2016 season with a team GPA of 3.48. The Falcon women enter the 2017 Indoor season with aspirations of bringing home their 3rd straight Indoor Title and finishing Top-10 at the Indoor National Meet in Johnson City, Tenn., in early March.
Before arriving at Friends University, Davis spent time as an assistant coach at both Pratt Community College and Pratt High School where he developed multiple state champions and national qualifiers during his short stay. Davis is a graduate of NCAA Division II Emporia State University where he competed in the Decathlon. He attained a Master’s Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation with an emphasis in Coaching in 2014 and also completed his USA Track and Field Level 1 Coaching Certificate. Davis recieved a Strength and Conditioning Certification in the Summer of 2016.
Dennis Smithhisler enters his 5th year as an assistant coach at Friends University, helping with the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams as well as the distance runners for the Falcon Track & Field Programs.
Smithhisler competed in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference at Southwestern College and was a five-time All-American as well as a member of two National Champion Indoor Relay Teams. He anchored the DMR and also ran a sub 1.54 split on the 4X800. Smithhisler still holds school records for the Moundbuilders in the steeplechase and several distance relays. He ran a 9:01.56 to place 3rd at Nationals in the steeplechase.
After college, Smithhisler earned a Master’s Degree in Communication from Wichita State University while continuing to run on his own.
Smithhisler now teaches at Butler Community College and competes as a masters athlete in local track and road races, running for the Wichita based GoRun Team. This past summer, he hit a lifetime PR of 200 miles in a single week.
Manny Aceves, a Graduate of Friends University, has returned to the Falcons as the Throws Coach beginning with the 2016 Outdoor Season. Aceves was a KCAC Champion and National Qualifier in the Discus in 2014 and will be working with athletes in the Shot, Disc, Weight, and Hammer Throw. During the 2016 Outdoor Season, Aceves mentored Mike Gallagher to the KCAC title in the Discus and helped Abby Belt qualify for the National Meet in the Hammer Throw with a new school record over 150’.
Ethan Pearson, a graduate of Wichita State University, has completed his 1st year of Collegiate Coaching. Pearson was a 17’ vaulter for the Shockers and spent the 2016 season working with the Falcon Vaulters. Pearson mentored Freshman Naomi Bader to the Outdoor Conference Title, and helped Kyle Helberg set a person best while acheiving 2rd place in the Outdoor KCAC Championships.
Dylan Biedron, a 2016 Graduate of Friends University is now entering his 2nd season as a volunteer assistant with the Falcons. Biedron was a decathlete and jumps specialist and will continue to work with the Falcon Jumpers during the 2016-17 season. During 2016 Biedron helped with the development of five different KCAC Champions and mentored three different athletes who qualified for Nationals in their respective events.
Kaitlyn Keck, a 2016 Graduate of Friends University, will be starting her masters degree with Wichita State University and also helping the Friends program as a Volunteer Assistant specializing in the Hurdles, Jumps and Multi’s. Keck finished her career as the all-Time leading point scorer in Friends University Track and Field History.
