The Garvey PE Center gym floor will undergo an extensive facelift beginning July 2nd.

With several changes in collegiate basketball in the past few years, Falcon Athletics has partnered with Creative Floors to adapt the court to the new 3-point lines shared by both men and women basketball, to add the "charging arc" used by referees to determine a charge or block under the basket, and to enhance of the court lines for collegiate volleyball.

In addition the court will have a new graphic display along with a two color stain that will give the hardwood a unique appearance that will be pleasing to both athlete and spectator.

"We evaluated several renditions of design" stated Joe Zimmerman, Director of Athletics. "Seeking input from our volleyball and basketball coaches we are excited that the new look will be very appealing and will enhance our facilities".

Sample drawings show the graphics on the main court will be removed and placed on the baselines of the court. Boundary lines will be changed from the current three color format to one solid color that will be wider and more visible.

Zimmerman went on to say: "Initially when the new floor was installed about four years ago we wanted a lot of graphics on the main floor and we tried to be creative with three colors on the sidelines that gave a really colorful appearance. After some years of use and feedback from coaches, officials and student athletes we determined that a clean court with fewer graphics and solid out-of-bounds lines was really wanted. So we pulled the trigger and made the changes".

The project will take approximately 30 days, with the court ready for use by August 6, 2012.
