
Wichita, Kan. - The Friends University Track and Field teams competed in the first KCAC inaugural Indoor Track and Field Championship meet this past weekend at Wichita State University. Both the men's and women's teams came out victorious. This is the first track and field conference title of any kind for the men and the third in a row for the women, going back to the last two outdoor track and field titles. Both programs are going for the illustrious Triple Crown by winning cross country titles in the fall, then indoor track titles in the winter, and outdoor track titles in the spring.
The women finished with 159 points, 44 more points than runner-up Southwestern. The men finished with 167 points, 32 more points than runner-up Southwestern.
The women's team was led by a dominating distance performance as the distance runners scored 109 of their 159 points. The following distance girls led the way with all conference finishes:
*Junior Jordan Arnold winning both the 5000 meters (18:32) and the mile (5:14). Both times were national standards and the mile was a school record.
*Junior Cecilia Burley winning the 1000 and finishing second in both the 5000 meters and the 600 meters. She was also the high point scorer in the entire meet.
*Junior Kristie Adams winning the 600 and placing 3rd in the 1000.
*Junior Karissa Cominator placing second in the 3000, 3rd in the mile, and 3rd in the 5000 meters.
*Sophomore Connie Collins placing 3rd in the mile and 3rd in the 3000 meters.
*The 3200 Relay team of Cominator, sophomore Rachel Renken, freshman Megan Duggins, and Adams won the conference title.
*The distance medley relay team of Renken, Duggins, senior Lindsay Dunham and Burley won the conference title.
Other all conference award winners were the following:
*Sophomore Ashley Lyons, first place in the shot put and a new school record.
*Freshman Maddie Behny, second place in the 60 hurdles and a new school record.
*Junior Lacy McFadden, third place in the 600 hurdles.
*Junior Tina Clausen, second place in the pole vault
The men's team was led by a very balanced distance and field event scoring attack. The distance runners scored 89 points and the field event athletes scored 66 points. The following were all conference:
*Senior Nathan Nonhof: first place in the pole vault, 3rd in the long jump. Nonhof had not vaulted in four years and had not competed in track and field for two years after knee surgery.
*Senior Quentin Benning: first place in the shot put and a new school record and an "A" national standard (53-8). He also finished second in the weight throw.
*Senior Javier Ceja won the mile and placed 2nd in the 5k.
*Senior Tim Patterson placed 2nd in the mile and 2nd in the 1000.
*Freshman Dylan Biedron, second in the high jump.
*Senior Frank Miles: 2nd in the triple jump.
*Sophomore Daniel Herbert placed 2nd in the 800.
*Junior Michael Gurley placed 3rd in the 600.
*Sophomore Lewis Taylor placed 3rd in the 600 hurdles.
*The distance medley relay team of freshman Brock Nooney, sophomore Dan Moran, freshman Peter Reed, and freshman Peyton Wade place 3rd.
*The 3200 relay team of Gurley, Reed, Herbert, and Patterson placed 3rd.
