Wichita, KS - In 2009, the women's soccer team had a positive season, finishing over .500 and reaching the conference semi-finals. This season, the Lady Falcons are looking to go even further.
Head coach Victor Garcia-Bebek, who is in his second season, will look to lead the team to new heights after a successful first year.
During the Sport Management Conference in Salina on August 10th, coaches gathered to partake in the preseason poll. The Lady Falcons were picked to finish fourth, right behind Kansas Wesleyan, McPherson, and Ottawa. Being selected in the upper half of the conference is a good start, but the team believes that they can go much farther. Once again, the KCAC looks very competitive, and the race for the championship will be fun to watch.
Garcia-Bebek has many solid returners to help the team compete this season, starting with senior Alyssa Cox and Sophomore Lisa Nguyen. Both were selected to the All-KCAC Second Team in 2009, and both are looking to step their game up even more this season. Other women that will contribute will be Sarah Goldsmith, Lindsey Koland, and Abby Cunningham. All juniors, the three will use their teamwork and communication to help the team succeed. Along with Cox, Tiffany McMahon and Felicia Gallegos will provide senior leadership.
Friends will open its season in Friday, September 3, as they take on William Penn at home. After that, the women will be at home to face Dakota Wesleyan on September 4. With a new season comes new excitement and anticipation, and the soccer team is raring to go. The campus is buzzing with excitement for sports and the school year, and everyone is ready to get things rolling.
