Wichita, KS - The Friends University Athletic Department scored well on the NAIA Champions of Character (COC) scorecard to be named as a "Champion of Character" institution.

Friends University Head Softball Coach Tony Segovia who serves as the department's Champion of Character representative, monitors the compliance process for Athletics, and reports to the Athletic Director and the NAIA the progress of the COC activity.

NAIA coaches were required to complete online testing and assessments as part of the scorecard process. The due date communicated by the NAIA was August 15, 2010; however the Friends University coaches began their work in the Champion of Character process last October, when the online assessment was initially announced.

"I am so happy with our coaches", stated Joe Zimmerman, Friends University A.D. "Our coaches performed well on a national level in their efforts to complete the assessments. When the NAIA began providing results and reports of who had or had not completed the work, our coaches were leaders in the NAIA and the KCAC. It was great to report this to our institutional administration".

The scorecard process is one component of the NAIA Champion of Character environment. Member schools who exemplify the standards and qualities of the five core components of the Champion of Character program earn points and recognition for their institution.
