North Newton, Kan. – The Friends University Volleyball Falcons are now 2-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 3-1 victory over the Bethel College Lady Threshers last night (Sept. 6) in North Newton, Kan.

The Falcons pulled out a tight opening set 25-23 and then cruised 25-17 in the second to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Down 12-11, the Falcons took control of the second game with a 9-2 spurt.  Kills by Casey Stewart (SR/Lewisville, Texas) and Madison Woody (FR/Douglas, Kan.) put Friends up for good before kills from Madalyn Swinicki (JR/Wichita, Kan.) and Ashleigh Hunter (SO/Andale, Kan.) finished off the set.

After the Lady Threshers stayed in the match with a 25-21 win in the third, the Falcons quickly rebounded to put away the victory 25-20 in the fourth.

With the fourth game even at 14-14, the Falcons gained control by scoring six of the next eight points.

Hunter paced the Falcons (2-8, 2-0 KCAC) with a team-high eight kills, while Stewart and Olivia Naccarato (JR/Mulvane, Kan.) each had seven kills. Swinicki and Tiffany each recorded six kills.

Jana Boston (SO/Newton, Kan.) led everyone with a match-high 23 assists, with Kylee Glahn (JR/Windsor, Colo.) notching 14 assists.

Brittany Harris (SR/Flower Mound, Texas) tallied a team-best 20 digs and Megan Regier (SR/Newton, Kan.) had 12 digs.

Katie Neira led the Lady Threshers (2-5, 0-2 KCAC) with 16 kills and Kelsie Anderson put in a team-high 17 assists. Avery Myatt paced four Lady Threshers in double-figure digs with 17.

The Falcons will next compete in the Lindenwood-Belleville Tournament, starting tomorrow (Sept 8) at 1 pm against the tournament host. Friends will then play No. 11-ranked Missouri Baptist University at 5 pm Friday.

On Saturday (Sept. 9), the Falcons will start off at 9 am vs. Cumberland University before facing Saint Ambrose University at 3 pm.
