WICHITA, Kan. - The Friends Univeristy Softball team split Saturday's KCAC doubleheader with visiting Tabor College. The Falcons fell 3-2 in game one before run-ruling Tabor 10-2 in game two inside TRYC.

A close play at second went Tabor's way, allowing the Bluejays to extend the 1st inning after which they would hit a two-run home run for an early lead.

Friends (28-15, 8-3 KCAC) got one of the runs back in the 4th on just their second hit of the game to that point, as Sara Gonzalez (SR/Granada Hills, Okla.) homered to left to make it 2-1.

Tabor (24-15, 9-5 KCAC) got that run back in the 6th, taking advantage of a Falcon error. Friends closed to within a run in the bottom half of the inning, with Casady Marlnee (SO/Augusta, Kan.) hitting a solo shot out to left. The Falcons would get their next two runners on with just one out, but two pop outs on the infield ended the threat.

Friends had two runners on again in the 7th with the chance to tie or win it, this time with two outs. They would fail to get any runs across though.

The Falcons had just six hits with no player having more than one individually. Eleven batters struck out for Friends.

Heather Breslin (JR/Anchorage, Alas.) took the hard-luck loss, throwing a complete game and allowing just one earned run with no walks and four strikeouts.

It was Tabor scoring first again via the long ball with a solo homer to lead off the 3rd inning. The Falcons would take the lead in the bottom of the inning with four runs scored with two outs. Laykyn Lindsay (SR/Wichita, Kan.) led off with a double and S. Gonzalez walked after a groundout. A strikeout got two outs for the Bluejays, but Kailey Jenkins (SR/Wellington, Kan.) got two runs home with a double and Vanessa Oakden (SR/Clackamas, Ore.) followed with a two run opposite-field homer.

Tabor got their only other run of the game with another leadoff home run in the 5th.

The Falcons once again responded in the bottom of the inning with the first seven batters reaching. Lacey Hudson (SR/Enid, Okla.) started things off by getting hit by a pitch, Jenkins singled, Oaken doubled and Jessie Guentzel (SO/Caledonia, WI.) singled before Tabor changed pitchers. Kaelyn Smith (JR/Tuscon, Ariz.) greeted the new pitcher with a single and Emily Escobar (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) followed her with one as well for five runs of damage and a 9-2 Falcon lead.

Friends needed just one run in the 6th to end the game early, and they would get it. Singles by Brittany Benson (SR/Cheney, Kan.) and Guentzel followed by a Natalie Ramirez (SR/Wichita, Kan.) walked loaded the bases, and after a pop out, Lindsay finished the game with a single to right.

Starter Maci Walker (JR/Terrell, Texas) picked up her ninth win of the year in 5.0 innings of work.

Smith and Jenkins had a game-high three hits each to lead the offense. Oakden drove in three and Jenkins and Oakden scored twice.

Friends travels to Salina on Monday, April 17th to take on Kansas Wesleyan in games rescheduled due to weather earlier in the season. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4:00pm.
